What motivated the creation of Lost for Words?
I wanted to create a game that is fun, but relaxing to play – one that can be played in bed before drifting off to sleep, or in the subway on your way home from work. From the start, the goal in creating Lost for Words was to make an engaging game without using any countdown timers, conflict, or active competition that could create any stress. This game is designed to give players a sense of accomplishment as they play through it at their own pace.
What was the biggest challenge in creating Lost for Words?
Without a doubt, generating and managing the enormous library of puzzles in the game was the most difficult aspect of putting it all together. There are over twenty thousand different puzzles in the game, which all need to work on devices with dramatically different screen sizes and shapes. Many of the puzzles contain phrases with interesting punctuation, accents, and other special characters. And all of the tens of thousands of different phrases need to be grouped into topics, packs, and files so that the players can approach them in a fun and understandable way.
What is the profile of the target player?
Lost for Words is intended to be enjoyed by the same group of people who like to play crosswords, word searches, and anagram puzzles. Like crossword puzzles, this game provides an element of trivia, where players can search their memory for phrases that fit with a particular clue. Players who prefer to search through all of the options—as with traditional word searches and jigsaw puzzles—will enjoy earning hints and working out the solutions letter by letter.
